The Shape of Things, 2013, was created for RoundSquare's Melbourne production of LaBute's play, of the same title. Performed and exhibited throughout February-March, 2013 at No Vacancy Gallery, Melbourne CBD. The sculptural photographs unveil LaBute's narrative. They portray a sense of vulnerability in the representation of characters who find themselves tangled in a web of complicated relationships. Payes constructed unique sets and sculpted characters using moulding clay to create the works in the series. The material was chosen to represent the inherent theme of malleability.
